A job offer first. Everything else follows from that

Almost every legitimate work visa begins with an employer who wants you. Anyone selling you a visa without a job is selling you nothing.

The single most important sentence on this page: no honest recruiter charges the worker. Legitimate employers and licensed agencies are paid by the company hiring, not by you. If someone asks you for money to secure a job abroad, walk away and tell us.
The route

How people actually get there

1

Find where your skill is short

Most countries publish an official shortage occupation or skilled occupation list. Nursing, care work, welding, heavy vehicle driving, software, civil engineering and hospitality appear repeatedly across Europe.

2

Get your qualification recognised

Trades and healthcare almost always require formal recognition of Indian qualifications before you can be hired. Start this before applying — it is the step that quietly costs people a year.

3

Apply directly to employers

Company career pages, national job portals, and EURES for the EU. Write to the employer, not to a middleman.

4

Get a written offer and contract

Read it properly. Salary, hours, accommodation, who pays the flight, and what happens if the job ends early. Ask us if a clause looks wrong — a second pair of eyes costs nothing.

5

The employer usually sponsors the permit

In most systems the company applies for your work permit. Your job is to supply documents accurately and quickly.

6

Then the visa, then the flight

Only book travel once the visa is stamped. Never before, whatever anyone tells you.

Warning signs

How the common frauds work

Every one of these has been used against Indian workers. If you see one, stop.

🚩

“Pay for the visa”

Asking for money up front to secure a permit. Government fees are paid to the government, usually by the employer.

🚩

Offer with no interview

A real employer wants to speak to you. An offer letter arriving with no conversation is a document, not a job.

🚩

Tourist visa, work later

Being told to enter on a visit visa and “convert it there”. This is illegal in most countries and ends in deportation.

🚩

Passport held by the employer

Your passport is yours. An employer holding it is a serious offence in most jurisdictions and a sign of far worse to come.

Country guides

Eighteen countries, researched and written up

Visa routes, salary ranges and the job boards that actually work — for Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
